The Customer’s Request

The customer wanted to improve the unrolling process to reduce raw material consumption, with several key objectives:

  • Precise alignment during unwinding to prevent any misalignment
  • Reduce waste, particulary at the end of the roll
  • Improved nesting performance on the cutting table
  • Enhanced ergonomics for loading and handling rolls

Overall, the customer needed a well-controlled unrolling process capable of precisely aligning the material while ensuring a stable and consistent feed to the cutting table.

CNM’s Response

We proposed a comprehensive solution based on two main pillars:

  • Precise material alignment using ProWinder Vision, even with irregular edges
  • Positioning accuracy of up to 0.2 mm with real-time realignment
  • Simplified loading thanks to the dancer-positioned guide for direct and easy threading
  • Automatic synchronization with the cutting table via ready signal
  • A vision system with backlighting to detect edges though the liner

Overall, the solution incorporates a laser pointer that indicates quick and precise alignment, while ensuring smooth and continuous adjustment without any run-out effect along the length of the roll.

The ProWinder Vision brings material directly to the Zund cutting table, with several key advantages:

  • Perfect tension and speed management of the material thanks to the dancer roller, regardless of the nature of the material (elastic, fragile, thick, with irregular edges or slippery)
  • Precise and continuous alignment by camera, compatible with all types of materials
  • Stable and quick installation to secure and streamline production

Our unwinding solution offers optimal tension and speed management of the material thanks to the mandrel, while preserving the integrity of the most fragile materials. The camera alignment, accurate to 0.2 millimetres, eliminates the risks of drift and material waste. The perfect synchronisation between the ProWinder and the Zund cutting table, combined with intelligent edge detection via the backlit vision system, guarantees a smooth and continuous feed. The simplified roll loading thanks to the dancer roller in the raised position, as well as the automatic end-of-roll management, allow the operator to focus on essential tasks.
